but i must admit
it was only last year that i was able to
read "almost"
the entire book
close to "almost"

The notes make it easier for me to read and understand at the same time.
I can now relate more to each story told in God's big book.

my very first blog entry for 2007

maybe, the small percentage of my chinese roots
(my grandfather's mom i think)
opted me to start my year
on the first day of the first lunar month instead
spring festival coming on February 18, 2007.

i'm far from home
(in a land where i shower only three to four times a week)

got to maximize this time well to set my 2007 goals
better late than never.
lifehacker led me to using a goal setting toolkit - should be s.m.a.r.t. :)

i am now living and continuously claiming pat robertson's fearless forecast on this year ahead

And the promise is that this year is going to be a year of extraordinary miracles.
And if I’m hearing the Lord right, there are such extraordinary things that are going to take place:
victory over demonic powers, victory of healing, some dramatic miracles taking place in people’s lives.
And the Lord said it’s going to seem to the people like Heaven has come down to earth.
It’s going to be that good. It’s going to be really an extraordinary demonstration of God’s power.
The other thing He said was that this is the final year of the great demonstration of His grace to the world.

the primary purpose of this blog was to document this project.
then i thought of blogging for the other ongoing and old projects of huram.
projects come and go - so the next question that occupied me since was
"what should i write next?"

since i'm claiming that this year will
be really an extraordinary demonstration of God's power
i should blog about my miracles this 2007 instead!
i can write something vague
so as not to provide personal details about me
i can hide some personal stuff but at least
it will still be a good way of reminding me and my readers (only a few hehe)

miracle 1
i was able to find a new home somewhere.
not a fancy place and not necessarily better than my previous flat.
i just know that God led me to get there.

miracle 2
i was able to wear this. yes only this hehe.
(rose from titanic: wearing "only" this.)

miracle 3
this was last year.
but i was able to see someone
whom i really really like.
i keep my gaze away from him because
i know that he is a
"MILLION MILES AWAY FROM ME"
near yet so far in terms of
looks, popularity, connections, etc
the only common bond between us is
G O D
but i just praise the Lord that i was able to
see someone whose qualities
i have actually listed sometime ago
in a piece of tissue paper
with friends over some coffee
years back
in a short business trip
somewhere in ireland
he may not be God's chosen guy for me
but at least, i was able to prove that
someone exists out there
that the very desires of my heart
can be provided

miracle 4
i was able to decorate this place again
for a luau (hawaiian feast) party
in observance of the church's annual valentine's day celebration.
it was a miracle in itself that i was able to go back and visit.

miracle 5
i was able to be at peace
this will be my home for some time
against the wishes of my parents
i can only cling to God's perfect will for me
it may not be the most practical and logical move for some
like everyone is deciding now based on
"i will go where my source of MONEY will lead me next!"
i'm hearing a different direction from God
not towards $
so many temptations to lean on that
not even for ♥
last year - i admit
i based my decision in transferring to my old rented place
partly because of this soldier foreigner guy that I really really like (before)

...it may take some time for me to grab that leading role......becoming a bride......share the 101......for now, i will just enjoy all my other possible roles in future weddings......name it......i've been a flower girl, carpet roller, candle 'lighter', bride's maid, wedding singer......even an assistant for a wedding photographer in arizona......come to think of it......i haven't been assigned in 'veil and cord'......coz it's too much for me to handle haha...dangerous for huram......my favorite role - being a wedding decorator......the last one that i did......it came out fine, but i was a little disappointed because of the time constraint......the wedding was at 3pm, and we were only allowed in the church venue at 12pm......you see, you can't hurry art......i don't like to decorate anymore within a short time frame......but still, i love decorating for weddings...

I visited the convenarium last night. Cool architecture. I love how they engineered the acoustics inside - eksakto ang tunog lalo na ang drums - tambol, my most favorite sound in a P&W band.

When was the last time I worshipped at BOL? Years ago, in a theater just blocks away from crossroad77 - that was every Sunday at 5am - wow.
(ngayon sa worship, 9am na nga, late pa!)

After the P&W, they flashed some slides on screen ... events ... announcements ... "The Shire" event?...nyaks, I recalled my previous post - Oh yea, the reason why I like the green isle so much - in my subconscious, I want to go back to the Shire - oh that's why I'm living in such a small place now - & I prefer it that way mind you - naku po! I like everything small? Sabi ko na nga ba - patay tayo diyan - barely 5' nga si Huram - aba, H O B B I T nga! - hmmm...and I like that I'm mostly underground now - di kita ng karamihan - hmmm huram, a hobbit in a hole :( not bad...

2ND MIRACLE : PROVISION OF FUNDS
REMEMBER THIS POST. WE FELT FROM THE START THAT THE OVERALL LOOK OF THE CHURCH WILL MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE IF WE WERE TO CHANGE OUR "STAND" - the place or post where one stands aka FLOORING! NEW TILES FOR A 31'X36' FLOOR AREA. "SUMUKO NA SIYA SA FLOOR WAX! AYOKO NA, DI NA AKO KIKINTAB PA." FROM THE PREVIOUS ESTIMATE, WE NEEDED P70,000 or $1,400 using Ceramic Tiles to P155,000 or $1,800 using Granite Tiles. JUST TOO IMPOSSIBLE TO RAISE THAT - BUT NOT WITH GOD. TUESDAY CAME, FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE DEADLINE, I GOT A CALL FROM SOMEONE AKA "ANO NI MUS" - THE FUNDS WERE ALREADY RAISED!!! "ANO NI MUS" ASKED FOR DONATIONS FROM A GROUP OF PEOPLE OUTSIDE MBCC. THEY SHARED THE SAME HEART FOR THE PROJECT AND GAVE ACCORDINGLY. "ANO NI MUS" ALSO GOT A GOOD BARGAIN FOR 60X60 SEMI-GRANITE TILES FROM THE CONTRACTOR. FOR SAFETY REASONS (AGAINST POTENTIAL BORROWERS HEHE) HURAM WILL NOT DIVULGE HERE WHERE THIS FUNDING CAME FROM :) - ALL WERE FROM GOD ANYWAY :) YES, IT WAS A MIRACLE. 5 DAYS! TOP THAT :) THURSDAY, JUST 2 DAYS TO GO TO BEAT THE FRIDAY DEADLINE FOR THE TILES, POWER WENT OUT BECAUSE OF "MILENYO". THE EARLIEST SCHEDULE FOR US TO GET OUR ELECTRIC POWER BACK, ACCORDING TO MERALCO, IS SUNDAY, THE DAY OF OUR DEADLINE. NO WAY! WE GOT OUR POWER BACK LAST SATURDAY INSTEAD. "KAY LORD KAMI MALAKAS DI SA MERALCO HEHE" GOD PROVIDED A WAY TO FINISH THE WATER FEATURE FOR THE BAPTISTRY. THEN THE TARPAULINS, EVERYONE REJECTED OUR PRINTING JOB - ALMOST ALL OF THEM HAVE NO ELECTRICITY YET, SOME WERE RUSHING THEIR BACKLOGS - WE ONLY HAVE ONE DAY ALLOWANCE FOR THE PRINTING. SEARCHED http://buyandsellph.com AND GOT A NUMBER OF THIS COMPANY - WHO CALLS A BUSINESS ENTITY AT 7PM? SOMEONE ANSWERED, YIPEE, THEY HAVE GENERATORS :) GOT THE TARPAULIN PRINTED AND INSTALLED ON THE SAME DAY ( DELIVERED THE FILE IN SM NORTH AT 8AM AND GOT THE ITEMS IN ARANETA AVE AT 8PM , WHEW MILENYO )

My background is in Web Programming - and it helps to know that the development cycle of web applications applies the same for makeover projects :0) Failures on past projects might haunt me back - so I will list the things that I've learned so far.

PRAY FOR THE PROJECT. - Know whom it is for!
KNOW YOUR RESOURCES (MAN, MATERIALS, METHODS, MACHINERY). - Work within a budget and stick with it!
BE ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR CHEAPER SOURCES OF MATERIALS. - Canvass, canvass, canvass! (*for location, location, location - nah, that line is more for realtors - 3 secrets of buying a good property :0) )
IDENTIFY THE ITEMS TO BE INCLUDED. - It helps to set a matrix in order of priority: "URGENT, IMPORTANT", "URGENT, NOT IMPORTANT", "NOT URGENT, IMPORTANT", "NOT URGENT, NOT IMPORTANT" or the "NICE-TO-HAVES".
DEFINE A TIMETABLE. - Let it be SMART or even SMARTER! (SMART + exciting or ethical + recorded)
EXPECT FAILURES. - Aim for perfection, but expect minor imperfections. "Anything that can go wrong, will" :0) - Murphy's law is here to stay !!!

KEEP EVERYTHING SIMPLE. KISS! - Right from the planning stage, consider making everything simple for those who will be in-charge for that task. ex. Using a standard 4'x8' plywood measurement so that the carpenters won't have to cut anymore. It will also do wonders in lowering your material costs.
IDENTIFY DEPENDENCIES. - TEAM - "together everyone achieves more!" Delegate, delegate as needed. More particular in a church setting, ask others for help so they too can be proud of their contribution. But having too many delegates might also increase dependencies. You need to balance your purpose for the project - is your timeframe a big concern? do you want this project to provide a venue for team building?
REVIEW. - Regularly check the budget and the team's accomplishments.
LAST. - Listen, Advise, Solve, Thank. - foster a team environment - don't ever argue or threaten. Everybody can benefit from a Win-Win strategy. No MELVIN (Mediocrity, Ego, Limits, Vanity, Incompetence, Name-calling)! just added 2 days after - 9/6/6 - BUILD WITHIN THE PREFERENCES AND CONVENIENCE OF YOUR TARGET USERS. - Common sense stuff - like for a church setting, minimize the use of color black - or for a church wedding, don't use dark green when their mottif is aqua green :0) Yes, it has to be built for their convenience too - don't let them figure anymore how things work - love the title of this book that we bought before in my previous company - DON'T MAKE ME THINK !

hmm, personally, what i've learned today - i've learned that with God, i WILL ALWAYS BE fine. yea, this day was tough, both financially and emotionally - hehe. Huram is fine now. - corrected on being FINE 'Fanatical, Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional' - we all are at times - 'Feelings Inside Not Expressed' - thank God, He wakes us up all the time - free us from traps - 'It's all about You, Jesus'. - time to cook - Huram is discovering another joy - Huram can now cook!!!

- after that long and tiring work yesterday -

- I am totally disconnected from the task -
- that You first commisioned to us -
- All that makes me busy -
- is just a part of a big passion -
- but is it really for You O Lord? -

MAKEOVER PROJECT 1

My favorite makeover project was for a church in Arizona: www.filambaptist.com . No pictures right now, just those posted in the web :) - the very reason why I want to blog ( not brag ) the details of the projects I'm involved with - I feel the need to journal the blessings - the very story on each project. I just have it all in my head -- tsk, tsk, tsk, tumatanda pa - nakakalimutan ko na yung mga pinaggagawa ko kung saan saan...ang pagpapala ng Dios sa bawat isa :)

This project was particularly special because it was my first time to work on a volunteer project outside the Philippines - buying stuff for the project was exciting - I frequent Michaels, Jo-Ann, Home Depot, Lowes - very addicted to window shopping - big shelves of art materials, wow - laking National kasi - shopping in a bigger place was something new. I was working on a small budget at the time, a common challenge for volunteer jobs - that too, made it more special - we were able to stretch out a budget that matched the very things that attract the eyes - at least with my own :) . What I like the most there were the curtains and the two posts - an American church member volunteered to do the woodwork for the posts, did I force the guy to work on it...hahaha - It was only made of wood, shallow inside - but it looked like real heavy posts after, great job... and the curtains, my first time to design one, haha. Pati pananahi kinareer! It was also my first time to use different techniques and materials for the wall painting on the pulpit - mostly in faux, I used sponging, metallics, etc, and of course my favorite - with its ease of use - spray paint! - I hate the smell - love rattling the ball! On one store there in Arizona, the spray cans are all locked in its shelf - I asked the saleslady why - she said that it's to prevent some kids from abusing the inhalants. Naku po, meron ring palang rugby boys doon. I first saw this faux technique in the Philippines at CCF - they had their stage in gray marble - It looked very real - I want to know and learn more from their own Huram there - the gurus of CCF!!! - I heard that they now have their new stage in 5F? - hmm, I was only able to see their anniversary in Araneta - got to see this new look - I'll go there one fine Sunday - can't wait to see the very plan of their future building near Tiendesitas - wow, this stretch from Ortigas to Rizal is really booming! may Cowboy Grill na nga sa tabi ng Ever, yung dating Burger King...ano ka ba, yun ba ang measure ng success ng Rizal...pag nagkaflyover na sa Junction, ayun na...Rizal has arrived na nga...Pero in fairness, sa kabila ng lahat, di lang sa Rizal, may bago na nga sa pinas at nakakatuwa :) Back na nga sa topic! emote ng emote hmp!

My first ever big project for a church - FIL-AM BAPTIST CHURCH - I miss them so dearly. Hopefully, after this project at MBCC, God will allow me again to work on another Makeover project. ...Wish ko laahaahang....Majikaahahahaaaah...kapalaran na ika'y matagpuan...ano ba yan...sari sari ng kanta sa TV ang nasa utak ko...lumayo ka sa akin!!!! kamandag ng TV!!!! ooops, Love Story in Harvard na...teka muna

I was watching a segment in Unang Hirit awhile ago - they were featuring Batibot - remember them? Ate Ging-ging, Ate Ning-ning, Manang Bola, Kiko Matsing, Pong Pagong - They even played the Batibot hits - "Ako ay kapitbahay Kapitbahay n’yo Laging handang tumulong sa inyo." ... "Alin? Alin? Alin ang naiba? Isipin kung alin ang naiba?" ... "Pagsama-samahin Ang pare-pareho Ang magkakatulad Ay ating igrupo." .. . and the classic "PAGMULAT NG MATA, LANGIT NAKATAWA SA BATIBOT, SA BATIBOT TAYO NANG MAGPUNTA TUKLASIN SA BATIBOT ANG TUWA, ANG SAYA DOON SA BATIBOT TAYO NA, TAYO NA MGA BATA SA BATIBOT MALIKSI, MASIGLA." ... nangingilabot na ba kayo ... time flies fast huh ... rewind ... Mandaluyong days ... something old...something new - may Makro na sa dating tirahan ng mga ninuno ni Francis Magalona sa tapat ng dating Apex na ngayon ay part na ng JRC - na ngayon ay Jose Rizal University na - o ano pa ba...bago na ang kalsada...ang Big Boy na lang ang di magiba este mag-iba ... pero ang Mandaluyong Bible Christian Church!!! meron na ring pagbabago :) ... this is just a sneak preview of what they're doing there :)
